Cover Letters Resume : Essential Steps for a Good Cover Letter

You might have skills that you didn’t realize you had. :

Several candidates hesitate to apply for jobs because they feel they do not have an important personality attribute that is asked for in the advertisement. It is also typically strange for people to think they don’t have a specific quality the employer desires when in fact they do. Before concluding you do not have an important quality, carefully review and go through your past accomplishments and job history with the intention of discovering what skills your have used at a previous place of employment that you can utilize at your next place of employment. You might have skills that you didn’t realize you had.

For example, in an advertisement the employer desires someone with retailer’s skills. But you’ve never held a retail job. This shouldn’t discourage you. Because you might possess skills someone with retail experience would have. You might not have worked on a retail counter but you had sold some items in your college fair or you might have sold tickets of the youth festival. It means you also have retailer’s skill.

One more attribute a person with retailer’s skill might have is oral communications skill. You might think that you haven’t oral communications skills. But before deciding this, reflect on ways in which you have communicated with others in your previous job or student / college life. While one should be realistic in a job search, we encourage the candidates to apply for all positions they desire. Because job searches are usually unpredictable.

Consider this scenario : A candidate applies for two positions at the same time, thinking himself an excellent fit for one position, but a lesser candidate for the other. He receives interview for the position he thought difficult to obtain. But he receives no response from the position where he thought himself excellent fit. This scenario is common among job seekers revealing that one should apply for any job he wants within justifiable reasons.
