Dear Mr. Marian,
I came across your name in the pen-pal column of my favourite magazine. On reading that we share the same interests, I decided to write to you and introduce myself.
My name is T. Vasu and I am a 15 year-old girl. I live in a small town on the west coast of Penisular Malaysia. I live with my parents and a younger brother. Our house is a small one but it is sufficient for our needs. The house is situated about 500 meters from the sea. The sea is actually the Straits of Malacca. Perhaps you have heard of it in your geography lessons.
I am studying in Form-3 this year and shall be sitting for a very important examinations. If I pass then I will be able to continue my studies. So I have to study hard.
I gather that your interests are reading and listening to songs. What books do you read and who are your favourite singers? I usually read books about the adventures of Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys. Enid Blyton’s books are also fun to read and I have read a number of them. I now find myself reading more ‘adult’, stuff by James Michener, Ian Fleming and others. Do you read books by them?
As for songs I prefer the slow sentimental ones, but I don’t have any favourite singer in particular. We have some pretty good songs by local singers here. If you like I could send you a tape or two.
Perhaps you could write and tell me a bit or two about yourself. It would be wonderful to hear from you.
