The Times of India,
Fifty innocent lives have been lost again due to callousness of the administrative authorities and the VIP phobia which is obstructing the balanced growth and development of the country. In this case also, as reported in your newspaper, the tragedy occurred as a result of efforts to clear the passage for the three Chief Ministers.
VIPs are the major cause for the miseries of the poor and common man everywhere. Go to the hospital anywhere, the presence of one VIP will create miseries for hundreds of patients. The VIP even with a minor ailment will be attended to by scores of doctors with the result that the other patients are deprived of expert medical treatment and equipment. VIP roads are maintained better. Residential colonies with VIPs have better sanitation and community facilities.
If this VIP phobia is not checked immediately ultimately, the VIPs will be like the kings and rulers of the past whose needs must be fulfilled at any cost.
Coming back to Haridwar, the guilty officials and politicians should be arrested immediately and charged with murder of innocent citizens. Ordering an inquiry is a ritual. It will not give any relief to the victims. The culprits will go scot-free through political and other connections.
