Love Letters Available : Reply to The Letter Written By An Old Married Woman who Falls in Love with Young Man

My Dear Feliana,

Undoubtedly, I feel that you are just like my mother at least in age but it is very strange that whenever I happen to meet you, look at you and come near you I have queer feeling.

Oh what a sin it is to think of an agreed woman like that but then what can I do? When I am by your side, I forget altogether my age and your age and remember only that I am a man and you are a woman. You have addressed me as your son and I have also addressed you as my mother. People say that the relation between the mother and the son is the most sacred relation on earth and I also believe it to be so. But why is that a great psychologists like Dr. Freud have said that the attraction between the mother and the son and also between the father and the daughter is nothing but a sex attraction? Did any mother or father entertain any vulgar feeling towards any of their children? I can not certify it because I have as yet to become a father. But I can say that I feel you as a son. I can assure you that whenever I looked at my mother I never felt in the same manner as I do feel in your person presence. It is probably because there is no blood relationship between you and me or because we have not lived together from our infancy up to this age or because we have never been told probably that all the sanctity of the relation between the parents and the children lies in their blood kingship and long familiarity. But then in the case of the animals and the birds how is it that the parents and the children forget so quickly their blood kingship and close intimacy and defile the sacred bond? Can human beings also forget the sacred tie in the same manner? If they can do so, the human family and the human society is bound to go pieces and we shall all be a reduced to brutes.

But then so far we are concerned, fortunately, we are not real mother and son to each other and therefore, whatever vulgar we may have between us shall not be able to defile the sanctity of the relation between the real mother and the real son. But as I have addressed you as my mother and I shall never allow you to treat me except to love nor can I touch your holy body with that dizzy intoxication with which the husband or the lover touches the body of the wife or beloved.

Yours affectionate son,
