Low-Ball, Lower of Cost, Lower of Market

Low-Ball, Lower of Cost, Lower of Market :

Low-Ball : a supplier offered price that is lower than that of any other supplier so as to restrict the prospect who has a solid relationship with a competitor from resisting to the offer or considering other options. Although low-balling is legal for securing an order and gaining the opportunity to prove one’s ability to perform, once the order is secured, the companies are not willing to accept the loss and they may try to recover their profits by overpricing.

Lower of Cost = Lower of Market : the reporting of an asset value conservatively : meaning that if the asset’s market value falls below its book value, a downward adjustment of the cost is done in the financial reports so as to reflect the loss
