Here are a few resume tips. Candidates generally use the following headings for his section.

Professional Experience
Professional History
Employment History

Avoid using Work History or only Employment. These are not effective and power words and they don’t give a professional get-up to the resume.

Begin with the current or most recent position and go backward. Concentrate on giving good details about your most current positions and offer only limited information about the jobs held earlier on. No need to mention actual dates. Years are sufficient (e.g, 2005-current). Your job title and the name of the company should be mentioned.

Next list your key responsibilities. Do not mention routine duties like attending meetings, answering telephone etc. Be brief and write only the key responsibilities. Use power words to describe your function, like co-ordinate, organize, design, oversee, motivate.

Write your achievements with every position you held. Here you can describe those skills that make you the better candidate for the position.

Do not mention those positions that you might have held for every short periods of time. If you think necessary to write, club two or three positions. You can write a simple statement to sum up the several jobs you held earlier on.

Whatever you want to highlight more (your job titles or the names of the companies) that should be listed first.

Reliance Petroleum Ltd. - Engineer Supervisor

Engineer Supervisor - Reliance Petroleum Ltd.

You should include all volunteer works and internships as well as any key service experiences in this section. This section isn’t only for paid jobs.

Some Useful Tips :

Mention briefly your responsibilities. Most of the employers have common complaint that candidates write job responsibilities in such a long and detailed manner that sometimes it takes five or six pages. Avoid the routine duties and mention only those key duties that you think will impress the employer or that make you stand out among equal crowd.

Do not write your entire employment equal history. Employers are usually interested in the work you’ve performed for the last 10 to 15 years. So mention only employment history up to 15 years. Avoid the older job history unless something of the past is very important to mention.

Mention your achievements to make you stand out. Employers are not interested in hearing about your job duties. What they really want to know is your achievements. So mention your accomplishments. Use power words to describe your achievements.

1. Managed staff strength of 30 and reduced absenteeism by 18% within a period of one year

2. Reorganized mail received and dispatch section and improved procedure of monitoring and disposal of letters handsomely

3. Organized weekly motivational meetings of the sales personnel which resulted in a 21% increase in sales turnover.
