What is sentence in English?

A group of words which make complete sense is called a SENTENCE.

Example : I am writing a letter

A sentence has two parts namely the SUBJECT and the PREDICATE.

What is subject in English?

The part which names the person or thing we are taking about is called the SUBJECT of the sentence.

What is predicate in English?

The part which informs something about the subject is caller date PREDICATE of the sentence.

What is a CLAUSE in English?

A group of words that forms a part of a sentence and contains a SUBJECT and a PREDICATE is called a clause.

This is the house where we live.

In this sentence, WHERE I LIVE is the clause.

If that part of the sentence has separate meaning without depending upon the main sentence that is called CLAUSE

What is a phrase in English?

A group of words that makes sense but not complete sense is called a PHARSE.

The sum rises in the east------- This is a phrase. This does not have a separate verb.

What is MAIN CLAUSE in English?

If a clause makes good sense by itself and can stand alone as a complete sentence, it is called the MAIN CLAUSE or the PRINIICPAL CLAUSE.

What is SUBORDINATE CLAUSE in English?

If the clause does not make good sense by itself and cannot stand alone, it is called a SUBORDINATE CLASUE or DEPENDENT CLAUSE.
