If you have limited work experience to list on your resume, create a functional resume that emphasizes skills. Thus, near the top of your resume, create a section entitled Skills and list such items as particular software knowledge (for example, Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator), bilingual skills (Spanish, Russian) and mechanical skills (TIG welding, punch press). In addition, you can also use a functional resume to emphasize your educational background. Focusing on skills and education is an effective way to address the issue of limited work experience.
Focus on areas that demonstrate your positive traits. For instance, educational accomplishments should be highlighted. In fact, you may even want to list these before work experience. A customized objective (to the job) is also appropriate. It not only sends the message that you want the job, but also gives you an opportunity to showcase your writing skills.
