Resume Cover Letter Sample

Resume Cover Letter Sample : Cover letters are a necessary part of an outreach campaign. However, your cover letter should be seen as an asset, not a burden. It adds value to your resume, increasing your chances of getting the interviews you want.

At first you may thing that you would have nothing to say. But you may have too much to say. Why not really strut your stuff and give them two or three pages of interesting material? You do have a lot you could say and you recognize that.

But your task is to identify the most important items to convey to the reader. If you go beyond one page, you are making two mistakes.

You are conveying your inability to establish priorities and communicate effectively. That is the opposite of what you want to do.

A long letter may be too time-consurning for a prospective employer to read at all.

Who knows where the time goes?

This sounds like a lot of work. Okay….the cover letter is necessary. But let's be realistic. Will we have the time and energy to do it right?

We would develop an approach - to cover letters that would make writing them doable at a reasonable cost in time and energy. In the process, we would actually increase our job opportunities in two ways.

First, it would make a successful outreach campaign possible. That is, you will be able to take the initiative in contacting employers of interest to you.

Second, the process you use for writing your cover letters will help you interview better as well.

Where will the time corne from? Let's assume that you're just starting your job search, so you'll need a lot of time researching and gathering your materials. At the same time, let's assume that your work or academic commitment consumes 10 hours a day, Monday through Friday.

The basic research carries out takes a total of about 10 hours. Once it's complete, it is available to you and doesn't need to be repeated. Networking may consume one hour per meeting, including contact letters and follow-up. Your prototype cover letter will take about three hours to write. Once it is written you will want to change it, but you won't have to start from scratch. Changes to your prototype to suit different circumstances will take about 20 minutes per letter in the beginning and even less as you grow more skilled.

The standard week has 168 (7 x 24) hours of which you need to sleep about 56 (7 x 8). We assume about 21 hours a week for eating (3 x 7) and 50 hours for work or academics. That leaves you 41 hours per week open after taking care of necessities. If you take just half of that time and divide it between networking and outreach letters, you could have 10 networking meetings a week and send out at least 60 letters.

Voltaire's axiom

The famous French philosopher once said, "If I only had time to write, I would write you a short letter." Long letters tend to ramble and hide the main points. Do the employer and yourseIf a favor. Keep it short.

Cover letters are a necessary part of an outreach campaign. However, your cover letter should be seen as an asset, not a burden. It adds value to your resume, increasing your chances of getting the interviews you want.
